The Instant Pot phenom

Ok, so it’s been awhile. Sorry, but I have family that gets all of my attention and believe me it’s allot.

So in the last month my lovely husband bought me an Instant Pot for Mother’s Day! I was not super stoked at first but once my disappointment waned because the gift seemed very old fashioned to give. Like I’m a housewife from the 50’s “Oh here’s a cooking utensil for Mother’s Day!”

But I digress. This unit is awesome! I mean when I totally forget to start my slow cooker 8 hours before dinner, the Instant Pot helps me out in 1 HOUR!

I’ve made delicious dishes in it, all found on Pinterest!! I’ve made Philly Cheesesteak, hard boiled eggs, soups, and ribs! You name it, it does it!

I highly recommend this one from Amazon. Instant Pot Duo Plus 9-in-1 Multi-Use Pressure Cooker, 6 Qt | Stainless Steel

There are other sizes available but this brand is the best. Worth every dollar. 🙂

Happy eating,

Hitting Plateaus and boredom

We’ve all been there or are feeling this way now. You’ve hit a plateau, basically you aren’t seeing results anymore. You have stabilized. Also, maybe you and your body have become bored of your current workout routine.

It’s good to change things up every few weeks to give your body a shock with a new workout and challenge!

I love following fitness peeps on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. You can get so much inspiration and new ideas from others! The best part; It’s FREE!!

Below are some websites I love as well as Instagram accounts I follow…

Also, if you want to pay a few bucks (totally worth it) go to;

Basically, there are so many ways you can change-up your workout! If you belong to a gym, I would try adding a yoga class once a week, maybe some HIIT training  and don’t be afraid of lifting weights!!! They will not make you bulky, I promise!!

Happy Lifting,

#perfectlyimperfect

IMG_0023I was so inspired when I first saw Natalie Hodson’s video post on Facebook titled “Perfectly Imperfect”.

She discussed how makeup and Photoshop were all part of the product of being a fitness model….all basically surface editing. But in the real world of being a mom, she didn’t really look that way.

Did you ever wonder if everyone who appears to have it all, if they really do? Are they really as perfect as they seem? Doubtful.

Now speaking of myself, I think I may seem to have it all together. Not!

I do try my best to not leave the house without looking like I tried. I remember telling my husband after my first baby, ” I just want to look like I tried”. Meaning, I did my best to get ready, put on some makeup, perhaps something stylish, when truly, yoga pants and a shirt without makeup would be awesome!

I also workout 5 days a week, which isn’t easy. I plan all our family meals around when I will workout. We eat all our meals at home besides a Friday night, and maybe lunch on weekends. But I also have two kids, one with special needs that has many appointments throughout the week that I have to juggle, also many supplements he takes at certain times of the day.

On top of that, I’m a Type 1 diabetic (insulin dependent) that also requires lots of attention and more juggling of blood sugars and medications.  This also causes my workouts at times to be difficult, because if my sugars are high I can’t exercise and if they’re low, guess what? I can’t exercise.

My husband is the one we all depend on financially, and it’s a burden on him as well. We have a stressful household at times, but I try to keep it all together on the outside.

So, the point of my blog today is not, “poor me” or a pity party. It’s that we don’t share the rough and tough times of our day on social media, just the happy joyful times, which there is allot of as well.

But the truth is, it’s ok to be #perfectlyimperfect. We all are.

With sincerity,

Heidi oxox

Obsessed with The Food Babe

Vani Hari came into my life through Facebook. I’ve been on a mission since my sons diagnosis two years ago with an ASD, that I would help my family make better food choices. I started joining different moms groups on FB, such as clean eating sites and cooking gluten-free, then one day in my news feed was a post from The Food Babe!

I don’t recall now exactly which post it was because there are so many I’ve read in the past two years, but she opened my eyes to what I was putting in my body and my families bodies. I’ve always read labels, more the real nutrition label, not so much the ingredients , but not I’m really on top of it. I mean everything from food coloring in marshmallows and pickle relish, (ugh) to preservatives and dough conditioners in our foods!!! Seriously gross!

I’ve often wondered how perfectly healthy people could get cancer and now knowing what we have consumed since we were kids, makes a lot of sense to me that we’ve poisoned ourselves with foods that we considered healthy.

I could go on and on, but I would recommend to all of you to buy “The Food Babe Way” by Vani Hari. I purchased mine on Amazon. It’s not hocus pocus information, its real info about real food and drinks we consume daily. It will change your life, no joke.

Ok, off my soap box….

The Wonders of Apple Cider Vinegar

I never thought I would say this but I’m addicted to Apple Cider Vinegar. Yes, you heard me right. After a discussion I had with my personal trainer about drinking ACV daily for several reasons, I decided to do some research myself. It’s beneficial for pretty much anything—your skin, your hair, and your house can benefit from its qualities. Raw, organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized, apple cider vinegar is so much more than a salad dressing!

Top 10 Reasons to use ACV:

1. ACV can aid in weight lossDesign
Many people claim the Apple Cider Vinegar promotes weight loss by speeding up the metabolism. Just mix 2 teaspoons with 16 oz of water, sip it throughout the day for daily weight management. (Warning, it’s a bit bitter, but you can always add honey or stevia)
2. Gives hair body and shine
Make your own healthy after-shampoo hair rinse by mixing 1/3 of a cup (75 ml) of ACV into a quart (1 liter) of water. You can then store this mixture in a plastic bottle and keep it in the shower for ready use. Apply the vinegar rinse after shampooing and then rinse it all out, or for extra conditioning, you can leave the rinse on your hair. This natural hair care product can be used once or twice a week or more often as needed.
3.You can use it as a toner
Psoriasis sufferers praise apple cider vinegar for reducing inflammation. Apply a few drops to a cotton ball and rub on your T-zone or other dry spots to prevent breakouts and minimize blemishes. I also like to add a drop of lavender essential oil. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty.
4.Teeth Whitener
Gargle with ACV in the morning. The vinegar helps remove stains, whiten teeth, and kill bacteria in your mouth and gums. Brush as usual after you gargle.
5. It’s a Tummy Tamer
It acts as an effective agent against the viruses that cause stomach flu. It is also a rich source of pectin, which helps soothe an irritated stomach. Moreover, it helps treat stomach ache, nausea, vomiting and gas.
6. Leg cramps and Restless Leg Syndrome
Sipping on an apple cider vinegar drink can increase low potassium levels in your body, a suspect in nighttime leg cramps and restless leg syndrome.
7. Reduce swelling
Rubbing ACV onto swollen hands or feet reduces swelling. A wonderful thing during pregnancy!
8. Soothing bath soak
The next time you get ready for a nice warm bath, add one to two capfuls of ACV. It draws toxins out of the body, leaving behind toned and moisturized skin. Again, I love to add a drop of Lavender essential oil.
9. Sunburn remedy
You can relieve the pain of a sunburn and minimize peeling by applying a wash cloth soaked in ACV to the area. Don’t worry about the smell it dissipates quickly.
10.Natural deodorant
Lots of people don’t like to use an antiperspirant, so ACV is a great option. ACV absorbs and neutralizes odors. Simply rub a bit in your underarms. The smell will disappear once it dries.
*I do recommend Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar, you can find it almost anywhere! It runs about $3 dollars for a 16 ounce bottle. What a bargain!!
